61SEO VS SEM
SEO Means Money
Search Engine Optimization or SEO is the process of making a site show up in the Search Engines for targeted keywords. Vast amounts of money can be made with SEO in more than one way.
If you are an ECommerce site owner, you want your site to be number one on the search engines for your targeted keywords. The difference in revenue from the top three spots is huge for keywords that have a high conversion rate.
Conversion rates mean that if you have a site that ranks for words with high conversion rates, and someone conducts a search with those words and comes to your site, they have a greater likelihood of becoming a paying customer.
What keywords have higher conversion?
Without doing in depth keyword analysis, generally speaking, triple keyword phrases, then double keyword phrases have a higher conversion rate than single word keyword phrases. This is mainly due to the fact that single words are usually very vague, and the more words mean more precision of the search. Usually people that are ready to buy, will use more precise search terms.
SEO vs. SEM
Search engine marketing (SEM) is a broad term which covers both natural (unpaid) search and paid search. Paid search results can be found on every search engine. If you are using Google, the paid results are at the top of the SERP's (Search Engine Results Pages) in the shaded results and in the right sidebar. Yahoo has similar paid results, but also notices that Yahoo now has paid results that appear within the natural rankings. If you see a Yahoo search result without the word "cached" following it, it is a paid listing.
Companies pay great amounts of money to get their sites to show up in the top three spots of the top three search engines, which currently are Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Fees for SEO campaigns can range from a couple of hundred dollars a month, to tens of thousands of dollars a month. Yes, lots of money can be made as a freelance SEO.
As expensive as SEO campaigns may seem, SEM campaigns, which often focus on Pay Per Click(PPC) campaigns are even more expensive, with budgets for successful PPC being anywhere up to Millions of dollars. By the way if you have shown a successful track record of managing PPC campaigns, the income is usually about 10 to 20 percent of the advertisers PPC budget. SEO as opposed to SEM tends to have a higher ROI(return on investment) for advertisers, but it does take longer to achieve since results are shown based upon merit.
