Style: a Personal Choice
60What is Style?
Thinking about style, I have to wonder if I will ever have a definitive style that I will call my own. Style I believe is something that evolves as we grow and mature.
Starting as a child we are influenced by our parents to have a style that will please them. For example, boys will have a style that is dominated with blue and with little boy things such as fire trucks, tractors, sports and the like. Whereas girls, are encouraged to adopt a style that incorporates the color pink into every facet of their existence while adoring little puppies and kittens.
First Style Stage
Tween To Teen Style
Then in the tween to teen years we begin to develop a sense of style that is entirely our own, influenced by our past experiences. If we have lived in an environment were our style was controlled by someone else, our styles may become more of a statement.
Often times this will involve dark themes that serve to shock onlookers. When you look at those youths who decorate themselves as goths or punks, look at them as individuals who are expressing themselves via what they wear, so that they cause a bit of fear in those who happen to look upon them. Do them a favor and act or show them a gasp of fear so that they will have accomplished their fashion mission.

Mature Style
Then after the styles of our adolescent years pass, hopefully we will finally begin to adopt a sense of style that expresses a sense of responsibility and profession. Whether it is adopting the look of those who we work with or those whom we seek to emulate, hopefully it will become a style that will allow the opposite sex to be attracted to us rather than repelled.
Next comes the style of parent hood.
This often times is the garb associated with our chosen professions that we must practice to keep our offspring in the style they are accustmed. The style of this stage requires much less attention to impressing others(except for our superiors)such as the opposite sex or our friends. Parent hood often necessitates that our style be such that we bring little attention to ourselves, and that the clothing we wear be able to with stand years of use.
The parenthood stage is my current stage of style that I currently exist, where my clothing usually only serves to keep me warm, and that is about it. I do occasionally dress to impress my wife, but this can be accomplished simply by wearing putting on a shirt and tie. Dressing in my $100 jeans or polo Tommy Hilfinger shirts are not needed. From now until my time on this Earth, I do believe that I will experience numerous other phases which will be expressed by their own styles.
The Final Style
The one style that I am looking forward to least is the one that resembles the first. This final style occurs when I am no longer able to determine what my style for the day will be, and maybe accentuated with drool bibs and diapers. Not an attractive style, even by my low standards.
Just a bit of rammbling about Style. What style stage are you in?
